Fabrizio Romano expects Richarlison exit after revealing failed Everton return

Fabrizio Romano expects Richarlison to leave Tottenham in January after revealing further details of the Brazilian’s failed return to Everton during the summer transfer window.

The transfer journalist claims Tottenham were prepared to let Richarlison return to Hill Dickinson Stadium as part of a sequence of deals that could have taken Iliman Ndiaye in the opposite direction. Richarlison decided against the move, but Romano now believes his time at Tottenham is approaching its conclusion.

Everton return was on the table

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano described Richarlison’s situation during the closing stages of the summer window as “crazy”.

He said Tottenham were unhappy when the former Everton forward decided against the opportunity to return to his old club, with Spurs interested in signing Ndiaye at the time.

“Tottenham in that case were going to sign Iliman Ndiaye, so the two deals were linked,” Romano said. “Ndiaye to Tottenham and at that point Richarlison to Everton.”

According to Romano, Richarlison didn’t believe the Everton move was the right option for him at that stage and the proposed switch fell through. Romano also claims Richarlison subsequently accepted a proposal from Trabzonspor that Tottenham rejected, while interest from Vasco da Gama failed to produce an agreement.

His expectation is that another attempt will now be made to resolve the situation when the transfer window reopens.

“My expectation is absolutely for the parties to part ways as soon as possible,” Romano said. “I think around January we will see Richarlison leaving Tottenham.”

Romano added that he doesn’t expect Tottenham to integrate the 29-year-old back into their long-term plans. For Evertonians, the obvious interest is that Richarlison could soon become available again only a few months after the club explored bringing him back.

There is no indication at this stage that David Moyes intends to revive that interest in January. Romano’s update concerns Richarlison’s expected departure from Tottenham rather than a fresh Everton move, but his account does confirm just how close the possibility of a return came during the summer.
