Richarlison has responded to some of the bizarre criticism he received on Wednesday night for his celebration against Lincoln City.
The Brazilian scored the fourth and final of Everton’s goals against the Imps, after which the forward took off his shirt and held it aloft to the crowd, with the shirt’s front facing the crowd.
Some opposition fans had taken to Twitter to poke fun at the former Watford man, either claiming that he had held the shirt the wrong way round, or that his replication of the famous Lionel Messi celebration paled in comparison against a ‘lowly side’ like Lincoln.
Taking to Twitter on Thursday afternoon though, Richarlison posted the perfect response to those poking fun at him, tweeting a series of photos for both Everton and Brazil of him doing the same celebration, accompanied by the caption: ‘Play for the name on the front of the shirt and they’ll remember the name on the back’.
Several Everton fans responded to the tweet, showing their support for the positive message shown by the 22-year old.

Criticism of Richarlison’s celebration was always strange, and comparison to Messi’s version seemed a stretch at best. So I’m glad Richarlison responded in the way he did, and I’m all for the message he sent with it.
Playing for the name on the front of the shirt should be what every player does, because it’s the most sure fire way for fans to remember them and what they did during their time at the club.
Finally off the mark for the season, I’m delighted for Richarlison and I hope to see the front of his shirt held aloft many more times this season.
