Richarlison set to sign new contract with Everton

Everton are expected to announce that Richarlison has signed a new five-year contract this week, according to reports.

Late last week it had been suggested that the Brazil international had been set to commit his future to the Toffees, and now Telegraph Sport report that Richarlison will put pen to paper before the Merseyside Derby on Wednesday.

Marco Silva is to hold his pre-Liverpool press conference later today, and the news could be broken as early as this afternoon.

The 22-year old joined the Blues last summer with plenty of expectation resting on his shoulders, and he largely impressed in his debut campaign at Goodison Park, finishing the season as Everton’s joint top goalscorer in the Premier League with 13.

While he has struggled for consistency so far this season, it is clear that Everton consider him a major part of the club’s future going forward, and a fresh contract will be a reward for his impressive early showings.

With speculation in recent weeks claiming that Manchester United could be interested in signing the forward in January, a new deal would also help stave off potential interest.

Richarlison is a player who regularly frustrates me, but he also has so much potential to be a great player for Everton. In fact, much of the frustration is born out of the fact that the Brazilian is clearly capable of much more than he currently offers the Blues.

His goalscoring record has been great for a wide player so far, and as he continues to grow and develop, the Toffees will see him improve as a player and as a valuable asset for the club.

Tying him down to a new contract makes sense for all involved, and with Marco Silva potentially on the way out, it would also ensure Everton can’t lose the forward on the cheap if Silva elects to bring him to whichever club he joins.
