Robinson credits Everton’s ambition following their pursuit of Rodriguez

Paul Robinson has praised Everton’s ambition following recent speculation linking the club with a move for Real Madrid playmaker James Rodriguez.

It was reported over the weekend that the Toffees believe that they have a good chance at landing the Colombia international, with initial reports emerging last week citing Carlo Ancelotti’s interest.

The Italian coach brought Rodriguez to the Spanish capital in 2014, before reuniting with him at Bayern Munich three years later.

Having tried and failed to sign Rodriguez for Napoli in the summer, Ancelotti is once again trying to sign the 28-year old for the third time, with Everton suffering a lack of midfield creativity at Goodison Park.

Speaking to Football Insider, Robinson heaped praised on Everton’s pursuit of an elite target, claiming Ancelotti has already taken the club to “another level”. Robinson said:

I think the type of players that are being linked to Everton have put them on another level already with Ancelotti there and able to attract these type of players.

He’d (Rodriguez) be an absolutely fantastic addition to any football team, and it shows the direction Everton and Ancelotti want to go in.

Despite Rodriguez having been outcast by Real Madrid in 2017, and having fallen slightly out of favour at the Santiago Bernabeu this season, he is still an elite player who possesses an abundance of quality.

Technically gifted and able to operate as a wide player, a central playmaker or as a second striker, Rodriguez has so many facets to his game that make him such a valuable squad addition, both as a creator and as a natural goal threat.

It remains to be seen whether Everton would be able to convince Rodriguez to come to Merseyside, or even whether Madrid would be open to letting him go, but if they were able to pull a deal off then Ancelotti would rightly be lauded for his transfer business.

Ancelotti has already risen Everton’s profile through his appointment alone, and every piece of significant business that he can accomplish will only go to show how right Everton were to appoint the Italian.
