Rojo wants January exit – here’s why Everton should move on

Marcos Rojo has revealed his desire to leave Manchester United in January unless he can work his way back into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side before then.

The Argentine defender was heavily linked with a move to Everton in the summer, with the United ownership pulling the plug on a transfer late on due to them consider the Toffees as top six rivals.

United reportedly wanted to a permanent sale before pulling the plug while Everton wanted a loan deal, which had created further complications, although they proved to be irrelevant by Deadline Day’s end.

Now Rojo has spoken up about his failed move to Everton and has declared his intention to leave United if his game time doesn’t improve, as he has his eyes set on the Copa America next summer.

Talking to Argentine outlet Ole, as reported by Star Sport, Rojo had this to say:

I had the possibility of going to Everton, but due to the decisions of the club or the manager it wasn’t possible.

Now I have to fight until December and, if it doesn’t work out, I will try to leave.

The qualifiers and the Copa America are coming and I want to be part of that. I don’t want to be out again, I want to exhaust all the possibilities and compete to be here.

With Everton having struggled to replace Zouma this summer, eventually failing to find a replacement for the Frenchman, maybe the club might reignite interest in January.

But should they?

I wasn’t a fan of the Marcos Rojo links in the summer, and neither will I be in January, unless we’re literally playing with Morgan Feeney and Lewis Gibson.

Rojo isn’t good enough in my opinion, and for such an inflated fee he isn’t worth the money, especially with cheaper options out there.

That being said it does all come down to what state Everton are in January, because if needs must, then Rojo is better than nobody for the remaining half of the campaign. Ideally though, the Toffees will duly swerve.
