Rooney wants to manage Everton one day

Wayne Rooney has revealed that he would like to manage Everton at some point in the future once he has hung up his boots.

The 32-year old boyhood Evertonian sealed a fairytale return to the club he left 13 years prior last summer from Manchester United, where he had written his name in the history books as the Red Devils’ all-time top goalscorer.

While the former England captain is currently focused on achieving with the Toffees, he is preparing for his future in the game after his playing days are over.

Speaking to Jamie Carragher in a Telegraph exclusive, Rooney said;

I would love to stay at Everton in a coaching role or hopefully as a manager one day.

It is something I want to do – to stay involved, but if that is not possible I will look to see where the opportunities are for me. I am determined to become a manager.

Rooney added that he plans to make the first step into coaching next season, continuing with;

From next season I want to be doing some coaching sessions with the Under 14s at Everton.

It would be good to have all my badges by the time I have finished, but it is also about having the chance to carry on when I have so I can get straight into coaching.

Although a relatively decisive signing in the summer, Rooney has enjoyed a successful beginning to life back on Merseyside, having scored 10 goals in 20 Premier League games.
