Former Everton and Manchester United striker Louis Saha claims Romelu Lukaku doesn’t work hard enough at times and won’t be one of the world’s best if he doesn’t change that.
The Frenchman, speaking exclusively to StarSport, remarkably said Anthony Martial has the edge when it comes to eventually being the best striker between the two players.
Martial has started his Manchester United career well, and Saha thinks he has all the tools.
I’m more confident that Martial will definitely fulfil his potential. He’s a little bit behind him [Lukaku] in terms of experience and showing his talent. But he’s got that mentality to try to work hard every day.
Saha then discussed Romelu, who’s also been in fine fettle for the Merseyside club, scoring most recently against Liverpool in his last game.
Lukaku has immense quality. You don’t score so many goals at his age without it. He is completely unstoppable on his day. But on other days it’s a bit different.
I think he’s working at 80 per cent. Imagine what he’ll be like when he hits maturity! He needs to understand that he needs to work harder to go even further.
Saha was keen not to totally write Lukaku off. The former Blue clearly feels the Belgian can be a force one day – if he isn’t already.
Lukaku is a great player. He’s not like me or other players – he’s got all the attributes. He’s powerful. His technique has improved. But in terms of quality, if I’m a manager I’d be demanding a lot more. I can see that still needs to work harder in training.
Everton face Manchester United this weekend, one reason for Saha comparing the two players.
With Lukaku’s form this season being 7 goals in 10 games, and Martial’s 4 in 7, it’ll be interesting to see if either can get themselves on the scoresheet again when going head to head.
