Schneiderlin determined to stay at Everton – How will he fit in this season

Morgan Schneiderlin has no intention of leaving Everton this month, with the French midfielder determined to fight for his place.

The 29-year old was reportedly a target for French outfit Bordeaux this summer, with the Ligue 1 side failing in a bid to bring him to France earlier this month.

According to RMC Sport (via TBR), Everton had received a proposal for Schneiderlin in recent days, however it was the player himself who was keen to turn them down, with the former Manchester United man wanting to ‘stay in England to give himself a chance to impose himself at Everton’.

Bordeaux have now turned their attention to Maxime Gonalons as an alternative target.

Schneiderlin has been a player who has divided the Everton fan base of the past few seasons. Some fans see the player as a necessary evil, with Everton’s squad depth having not been deep enough to let him go, while others legitimately valuing him as a key squad member.

I fall into the latter camp, and despite his level of consistency having fallen dramatically since the initial six-month spell after he signed, I think he still brings something difficult to the table.

With Idrissa Gueye and James McCarthy having left, and with JP Gbamin still to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League, it is even more important to keep a player of Schneiderlin’s ability and experience at the club.

Admittedly, the red card on in the opening fixture against Crystal Palace didn’t do him any favours, but I see that as just a minor speed bump, and I fully expect Morgan to play an important role this season.
