Shakhtar Donetsk block Everton’s move for Paulo Fonseca

Shakhtar Donetsk have blocked Everton’s move for their manager Paulo Fonseca, according to a report from Jack Pitt-Brooke of the Independent.

It is the second time that Everton have been blocked in their attempts to hire a Portuguese manager after Watford denied their attempts to appoint Marco Silva to replace Ronald Koeman.

According to the report, Everton’s majority stake holder owner Farhad Moshiri met with Fonseca and his agent Jorge Mendes over the weekend to discuss a move with Fonseca keen to make a switch to the Premier League.

However, he’s under contract with Shakhtar until the end of the season and the Ukrainian club are still trying to persuade him to sign an extension.

As it stands, it’s looking like Sam Allardyce will take over at Goodison Park until the end of the season. At that point, the Blues could then hire Fonseca as he would be a free agent.
