Sidibe passes Everton medical – why it will be an excellent piece of business

Everton look set to pip West Ham and Crystal Palace to the signing of Djibril Sidibe.

According to French outlet L’Equipe, cited by Inside Futbol, the Toffees have put the Monaco man through some medical checks, with a deal potentially set to be announced in the next 24 hours.

A move will see Everton pay the Ligue 1 side €2.5m for the player’s services for the upcoming campaign, with the Toffees then having the opportunity to make the deal permanent for €14 million.

If the proposed move suffers no further hiccups, it could be up there with one of the best deals of the window.

Not only would the Toffees be signing a player wanted by two Premier League rivals, but they’d also be receiving a versatile full-back who would more than likely replace Seamus Coleman as first-choice right-back at Goodison Park.

The 27-year-old has plenty of top-level experience and was part of France’s World Cup-winning squad last year.

Sidibe can be used as a traditional full-back or a wing-back, which will allow Marco Silva to tinker with his formations with both Sidibe and Lucas Digne on either flank.

If Sidibe showcases his proven ability in the Premier League, a €14 million permanent deal would more than likely definitely materialise.

And if for some reason, the Frenchman struggles to find his feet in England, the Toffees can always opt against securing the player’s services on a full-time basis, making a move, on the whole, another great piece of business by Marcel Brands.
