Gylfi Sigurdsson has admitted that he has been left frustrated sitting on the sidelines for Everton in recent weeks.
The Iceland international has dropped out of Marco Silva’s preferred starting line-up in the Premier League in recent weeks, with Alex Iwobi preferred as the No.10 behind the striker.
Sigurdsson has faced plenty of criticism this season, despite being a former favourite under Silva, and now he faces a battle to earn his spot back, particularly when Everton’s squad replenishes after their injury situation dies down.

The former Tottenham and Swansea did return to the starting line-up against Southampton last weekend with Iwobi dropping to the bench, although that could have down to Silva wanting to add a more natural midfield presence in his side, with Fabian Delph missing out through injury.
Talking to Visir (via Sport Witness), Sigurdsson revealed that he hopes he can maintain his place in the side following the win at St Mary’s, saying:
I want to play all the games, and I’m no different than other players.
I just want to play and especially when you are 30 years old, and you do not have ten to fifteen years left.
Then you want to make good use of the time and be in the starting team.

Unfortunately for Gylfi, because I can understand his reasoning behind why he should be playing, Everton are a better side with him out of the starting line-up.
Gylfi adds a significant goal threat, but his creativity as a playmaker has been lacking, and his lack of a turn of pace ultimately slows Everton down.
Everton need to be dynamic and explosive going forward to play to the strengths of most of the attacking options at Marco Silva’s disposal, and Sigurdsson doesn’t suit that system as well as Alex Iwobi does.
