Sigurdsson impressed against Wolves – Fan Reactions

Sigurdsson impressed against Wolves – Fan Reactions

Gylfi Sigurdsson has enjoyed mixed fortunes at Everton in the last few seasons. Despite scoring 13 Premier League goals last season, there were a large portion of fans that consistently questioned his inclusion in the Toffees’ team.

Even this season, with the signing of Alex Iwobi threatening Bernard’s place in the line-up, a number of fans had called on Marco Silva to drop the Icelandic playmaker instead of the Brazilian.

However, Gylfi has put in a number of solid performances as of late, with the 29-year old taking a much more aggressive approach to his creative duties.

The former Swansea man was superb in Everton’s win over Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup last week, and he continued that form over into the Wolves game on Sunday, putting in the perfect cross to assist Alex Iwobi for his first Premier League goal in Everton colours.

Taking to Twitter, a number of fans praised Gylfi’s influence on the game, while also crediting Richarlison for his hand in the build up to that goal.

@Bluebailey55 said: “The pass by Richarlison to Sigy hasn’t been mentioned, but it really was a fine bit of vision and skill. Hopefully the lad is back to the same levels of last season.”

@trevor_p_malco “agreed with that sentiment, replying with: just about to say this, great pass to start the whole thing”.

@Stephenah62 also hailed the duo, saying: “Great cross from Sigy, great header. Think we will see lots more of this, Up the Toffees”.

I’ve always been hard on Sigurdsson because I have such high expectations for him given his supreme ability, and as such I haven’t been a big fan of his work on Merseyside over the past few years.

That being said though, I’ve been mightily impressed so far this season. Gylfi moves with more fervour and desire and his deliver has been inch-perfect. Long may it continue!
