If Everton do sell Ross Barkley in the summer because he won’t sign a new contract then they’ll be in the market for a creative midfielder and there aren’t many better in the Premier League right now than Gylfi Sigurdsson.
With eight goals and 11 assists this season for Swansea, Sigurdsson has been the driving force behind the Swans’ survival bid and is said to be enjoying life under Paul Clement.
Last summer, Everton made a £28m approach for the Icelandic playmaker which was turned down by Swansea who were unwilling to allow another key player leave the Liberty Stadium after allowing captain Ashley Williams to join the Toffees.
Ronald Koeman was keen on signing him in the January window but was made aware that Swansea would not listen to offers given their position in the league.
Swansea turned down a £35m bid from China for the 27-year-old in January and will be keen to see him stay if they avoid the drop, making it harder for interested parties to secure his signature.
Sigurdsson remains high on Koeman’s wish-list along with Wayne Rooney and Michael Keane as he hopes to build a squad capable of competing for the top four next season.
