Marco Silva has encouraged Tom Davies to ignore his ‘not important’ Everton critics, with the midfielder intent on turning his focus to achieving success for both the club and the fans.
The England youth international often comes under fire for his performances in an Everton shirt, with much of the club’s fan base seemingly more critical of a local Evertonian.
While Davies has been inconsistent for the Toffees in the past, the midfielder did put on a confident and assured display alongside Andre Gomes against West Ham last weekend.

Despite Fabian Delph and Morgan Schneiderlin having returned to match fitness ahead of facing Brighton on Saturday, many Everton fans want Silva to keep faith in Davies for the clash against the Seagulls.
As reported by Click Liverpool, Silva is also keen to see Davies continue to progress, and he has called on the 21-year old to ignore criticism from those who aren’t important to his development. Silva said:
I really like Tom, not just as a football player but also as a boy. For me it’s really important for us as a football club to have players inside our dressing room that love the club.
One of the main things in football of course is quality and Tom has quality. We’re still talking about a really young lad.
Tom loves football and loves the club. He really feels Everton Football Club and what that means. I see him performing really well, taking his responsibility on the pitch and giving his best to the blue shirt.
Of course [not] everyone looks at him in a fair way. We look to him as an important player for us in the present and will be in the future as well.
It’s the most important thing to Tom and to prove his quality for us and our fans and look for nothing more, because the most important thing is here.

Silva’s advice for Tom Davies is solid, and at the midfielder’s currently stage of his career, he needs to begin anchoring down his position in the Everton squad and delivering quality on a regular basis.
Davies has all the tools to succeed, and while it is up to Davies to put them to good use, Silva also needs to have some faith and allow the midfielder to play. Spirited cameos off the bench won’t allow Davies to grow in the way that starting him regularly will.
Davies does need to ignore his critics though, because some tend to be especially harsh on him. I’m sure many players turn a blind eye to fan criticism anyway, but Davies in particular would benefit from having a singular focus and not letting external factors influence his form.
