Marco Silva has dismissed speculation that Sporting Lisbon approached him over their recently filled managerial position.
Reports had circulated yesterday that claimed that the Everton boss was one of a dozen managers to be contact by Sporting, who sacked Marcel Keizer earlier this month.
Jose Mourinho, Max Allegri, Vitor Pereira and Leonardo Jardim were all also approached according to O Jogo (via Sport Witness), with the report claiming that Sporting had hoped approaching former coaches would give them an advantage.

However, speaking in his press conference prior to Everton’s Premier League fixture against Manchester City this weekend, Silva denied having been contacted by the Liga NOS outfit.
When asked if he was aware of the situation, as reported by the Liverpool Echo, Silva said:
Nothing, nothing, nothing is true.
For me it is new what you are saying. There is nothing to talk about there, it is not true for sure.
I’m not thinking, I don’t read newspapers but it is not true.
Silva previously managed the Portuguese outfit during the 2014/15 season.

These stories are always interesting, because you can never tell whether they are true or not. It is quite easy to imagine Sporting contacting Silva, and it is equally easy to imagine the papers jumping to conclusions and printing false stories based on theories.
That said, does it really matter? Not quite, all that matters is the performances that Silva can draw from his squad in the next few games. Despite beating Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup, Silva is still on thin ice at Goodison Park, and he needs to win back confidence.
