Silva to remain as Everton manager for now

Marco Silva will maintain his position as Everton manager for the time being, according to reports.

Following the Toffees’ home defeat against Norwich last weekend, a large number of the club’s supporters finally turned on the manager, with many expecting the Portuguese coach to be sacked during the week.

However, Mail Online report that for the time being it is business as usual at Goodison Park, with it looking likely that Silva will be given the Leicester game this weekend, as well as possibly the Merseyside Derby afterward.

While Silva’s long-term prospects are essentially non-existent, Mirror Sport report that the former Watford manager is keeping his job currently due to Farhad Moshiri’s inability to find a suitable replacement.

Moshiri reportedly understands that there would be fan outcry if David Moyes was appointed on a short-term deal, and so the Everton owner is holding fire on sacking Silva until he can find the right replacement.

This leaves the club in a daunting position, with the Blues set to face Leicester, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal in their next five Premier League fixtures.

At this point in time I don’t think there is any way that I or anyone else can defend Marco Silva’s position as Everton manager.

The Everton boss has repeatedly failed to succeed in last-chance situations, and there is only so much time he can be awarded before Moshiri pulls the trigger.

Everton have a difficult run coming up, and that run of fixtures is ultimately the only thing keeping Silva in the job in my opinion, as no new manager wants that run of games.

Time will tell when he is sacked, but at this point it does feel like when, not if.
