Sporting have permanent option to sign Bolasie – why they should take it

Sporting reportedly have the option to turn Yannick Bolasie’s loan agreement into a permanent deal next summer.

The 30-year old Everton winger joined the Portuguese club on the final day of the European transfer window, signing to a season-long agreement to remain in Lisbon.

The DR Congo international had fallen down the pecking order at Everton are was unlikely to force his way into Marco Silva’s plans this season, seeing Lisbon as his chance to play regular football.

While Everton never revealed details over a potential permanent option in Bolasie’s contract, there is a clause in place, according to reports in Portuguese media.

Record (via Sport Witness) claim that Sporting will have the option to spend just €4.5million at the end of the season to keep Bolasie on a permanent basis.

Sporting will hope that Bolasie lives up to expectations in the Primeira Liga, with the Premier League star set to bring “experience” to the Lions.

It is crazy to imagine that three years after signing Bolasie for £25million from Crystal Palace, Everton have agreed a loan deal for him to leave with the option of a £4million permanent transfer. Where did it ever go wrong?

Injury ruined Bolasie’s career prospects at Goodison Park, but it is still shocking to the former Premier League star’s rapid decline.

Even more surprising, you would be hard pressed to find many Everton fans who would claim that the club need to be demanding more money, with faith in Bolasie’s ability all but gone.

It remains to be seen if he’ll impress enough to earn a permanent deal, but for that price, I’d imagine it’s likely.

matchday.
