According to The Times, Swansea have warned Everton that they will not get “bullied” over the Gylfi Sigurdsson transfer saga.
Everton have already signed Davy Klaassen and Wayne Rooney this summer who can both play where Sigurdsson can, but so can Ross Barkley, who has been heavily linked with a move away from Goodison this summer, so Sigurdsson could be his replacement.
The Icelandic midfielder pulled out of Swansea’s pre-season squad just hours before they departed to Philadelphia because he was not in the right frame of mind due to his uncertain future.
It’s been reported that the Swans are not going to negotiate a deal with potential suitors unless a fee of £50m is coughed up. This would smash Everton’s club-record transfer.
Swansea will undoubtedly be looking to keep hold of their prized asset this summer but will be well aware that keeping an unhappy player at a club is risky business, with the Toffees still lurking.
