Barry got the decisive touch to James Tarkowski’s long-range effort to put Everton ahead against Ipswich. Once the ball was in the net, the striker performed the celebration he had been shown by the young supporter.

Everton later put footage of the two moments together on social media, adding the caption: “Keeping his promise.”

The goal proved enough for David Moyes’s side to win 1-0 and continue their unbeaten start to the season. Barry thought he had scored again after the break, but his second effort was ruled out following a VAR review for Brennan Johnson’s offside position.

The striker had also gone close with a header in the first half, but it was his touch to Tarkowski’s shot that settled the game. For one young Evertonian, it also meant Barry had a celebration to remember.
