Three Everton players finish England win together as Pickford keeps clean sheet

Everton had three players on the pitch together for England as Thomas Tuchel’s side completed their international break with a 3-0 Nations League victory over Czechia at Wembley.

Jordan Pickford started and kept another clean sheet, while James Garner and Jarrad Branthwaite were introduced together after 63 minutes. It meant the Everton trio spent the final half-hour representing their club together on the Wembley stage.

Harry Kane inevitably took the wider headlines, scoring twice on his record-equalling 125th England appearance after Vladimir Coufal’s own goal had opened the scoring.

For David Moyes, though, there was plenty to like about the Everton contribution.

Pickford, Garner and Branthwaite finish together

Pickford completed the full 90 minutes as England recorded a comfortable clean sheet, his second in succession after he also started the 7-0 win over Croatia on Saturday.

Czechia offered little attacking threat at Wembley and failed to register a shot on target, but another shutout rounded off a productive end to the international window for Everton’s number one.

The particularly notable moment from a club perspective arrived shortly after the hour. Tuchel made a double change with England already 3-0 ahead, sending Garner on for Elliot Anderson and Branthwaite on for Marc Guehi in the 63rd minute.

That left Pickford in goal, Branthwaite in the England defence and Garner operating in midfield. All three remained on the pitch until the final whistle.

It was another useful senior appearance for Garner, who has established himself within Tuchel’s squad after forcing his way into the England picture. Branthwaite has also collected more valuable senior minutes during this international period. His half-hour at Wembley followed his late appearance against Spain earlier in the break and provided another opportunity to make his case at international level.

Garner and Branthwaite were introduced simultaneously in the 63rd minute, leaving three Everton players in Tuchel’s side for the closing stages. It was a small but significant image for the Blues.

Pickford’s place in the England set-up has long been established, but the presence of Garner and Branthwaite alongside him underlined the growing Everton influence within Tuchel’s squad.

All three can now turn their attention back to club football, with Moyes preparing his side for Sunday’s Premier League trip to Hull City.
