Three reasons why Evertonians will be excited by a Jack Grealish return

  • Grealish is currently on loan from Man City, but wants to stay on Merseyside.
  • Winger currently sidelined with a foot injury and has not played since January.
  • Following an op, Grealish will return to action for the start of the 2026-27 season.

The arrival of Jack Grealish sent a spark through the Everton fanbase and gave us Blues a dose of excitement – something we had been sorely missing.

Since his foot injury in January, the Toffees have been relatively successful in filling the void he has left, but he is a winger who is extremely difficult to replace.

As of now, Grealish could be returning to Manchester City at the end of his loan agreement with Everton, but the fact that he is undergoing his rehabilitation on Merseyside and has been extremely vocal in his support for the Blues indicates he will be staying.

On top of this, Everton have also shown their desire to keep Grealish.

This is music to the ears of all Evertonians, and we have reason to be excited by it.

The return of Grealish means more goals

Life at Everton started in an ideal fashion for Grealish as he notched two assists in his first game against Brighton and Hove Albion.

He also won the Premier League Player of the Month Award for August, becoming the first Blue to do so since Dominic Calvert-Lewin in 2020.

Before being ruled out by injury, Grealish was arguably Everton’s chief creator and, in essence, raised bums off seats.

Out of the 37 goals the Toffees have scored in the Premier League, the 30-year-old was involved in eight of them, meaning he has currently been directly involved in over 20% of all league goals.

What makes this stat even more impressive is the fact that he has only featured 17 times in the league.

On the whole, an Everton side with Grealish is one that can score a lot more goals.

Grealish is now a veteran who brings valuable experience

While it’s quite baffling to say, Grealish can now be considered somewhat of a veteran.

This season was his 13th in professional football, and playing his 14th with Everton would be extremely beneficial for club and player.

At Aston Villa, the winger proved to be a respected leader as he helped to guide his club back to the Premier League and maintain their top-flight status.

But when transferring to City, this quality was not spotlighted as he became part of a wider unit, and his role as a leader dwindled.

It has been joyous to see the ‘old’ Grealish back to his best, and his experience on both a European and International level will help the Everton squad, but having his personality as a leader will also serve its merits.

Grealish could perform even better with an enhanced squad

Grealish arrived at Everton after some significant spending from the club last summer.

For the coming transfer window, the Toffees are reportedly planning another period of big spending, which should mean more quality will be added to the squad.

Two areas that require improvement are the full backs and centre forward roles.

An impressive feature of Grealish’s season is that he has proved effective in a side that has lacked a consistent finisher up top, and full backs that struggle to create much threat in the final third of the pitch.

With a clinical number nine and attacking full backs that stretch opposing defences, the England international could play in conditions that allow him to create more chances and, in turn, more goals for Everton.
