“Totally biased” – Fans react to Reddy’s Zaha claim

Several Everton fans voiced their displeasure towards journalist and Liverpool fan Melissa Reddy on Thursday evening, with the ESPN contributor talking to BBC 5 Live about Wilfried Zaha’s failed move to Everton.

Zaha was tipped to make the move to Goodison Park on transfer Deadline Day but negotiations reportedly fell through after Palace refused to let him go. Reliable Everton source Paul Joyce claimed last night that Everton’s bid of £55million was rejected for the 26-year old, and although Everton indicated that they would be willing to bid higher, they decided against it when Palace indicated they would refuse those bids too.

Reddy claimed that the Ivory Coast international could do much better than Everton and she suggested that he perhaps made the right career move this month, claiming he would be better off waiting for a club with Champions League football to come in for him next summer.

A number of Everton fans took her words to heart, reacting with frustration over what they deemed to be her slighting the club and talking about the Toffees with disdain.

It was always going to be par for the course that at lease a portion of Everton fans would react badly to Reddy’s comments. Zaha was keen on a move to Everton, the club wanted him, and only Crystal Palace stood in their way, and fans have been frustrated at the media’s inability to see beyond the top six for some time.

Zaha was promised a move this summer if he waited throughout the previous campaign, so he has already been promised his move and the interest from the top six (except Arsenal) wasn’t there. There is far too much fascination over the fabled top six and how no other club should ever dream of breaking through, so I understand the frustration of those fans.
