Tottenham and Wolves join the race to sign Weston McKennie

Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers have joined Everton in the race to sign Schalke star Weston McKennie, according to ESPN (via NinetyMinutesOnline).

The 21-year-old, who has also been linked with moves to Leicester City, Liverpool and Newcastle United, is apparently available to buy for around €25m, although the clubs chasing him apparently believe that they could get him for closer to €20m.

The American was hardly prolific for Schalke last season, getting three goals in 28 Bundesliga appearances, but it appears that he’s impressed plenty of scouts, given the reported interest in him.

It looks like Carlo Ancelotti will be given money to spend this summer, but it remains to be seen which areas of the squad he aims to improve.

A winger could come into his thoughts given that Theo Walcott, Alex Iwobi and Bernard have hardly set the world alight this year, and in that case, McKennie becomes an option, but it looks like there could be a bidding war with some teams who’ll be playing European football next season, which could make it difficult for the Blues to do a deal.
