Update on Mason Holgate’s Everton future

Mason Holgate is set to stay at Goodison Park for the immediate future, and will compete for a place in the starting lineup according to the Liverpool Echo.

The 21-year-old saw an increase in playing time last year following a gruesome injury to Seamus Coleman, and has done enough to warrant a squad role for the first year of Marco Silva’s tenure.

Able to play at right fullback as well as centre-half, the Barnsley youth product has made 21 appearances in each of the last two seasons.

The versatile defender was forced to miss six of the last seven games of the season after sustaining an ankle injury.

With a contract running to the conclusion of the 2022 season, Holgate seems to have a long-term future on Merseyside should he continue to develop at his current rate.

With 14 caps for England at age group, the Doncaster-native’s ceiling seems to be a high one.
