Usmanov indicates that he wants to invest in Everton

Farhad Moshiri’s long-time business partner Alisher Usmanov has suggested that he is ready to invest in Everton.

Since Moshiri bought Everton in February 2016 after leaving Arsenal, many fans have hoped and prayed that Usmanov would join his long-time friend.

Under Bill Kenwright’s reign as owner, Everton were forced to spend little and be frugal in the transfer market, as they didn’t have the funds available to them to be able to splash out on big transfers.

Following Moshiri’s appointment though, with the Iranian having a net worth of $1.9billion, the Toffees were able to spend heavily, having invested over £100million on new players last summer.

Usmanov however would take the club to new heights. The Russian currently sponsors Everton’s Finch Farm training ground through his company USM Holdings, but with a net worth of $12.6billion, the club could finally break into the top four should he elect to invest and come on board. Speaking to The Financial Times, when asked about whether he would like to join Moshiri at Everton, Usmanov said:

Yes. With great pleasure, if he asks.

I am thinking about my investment in this club . . . I cannot reject Arsenal. I will not leave them as a fan. But if I join Everton, then I will wear an Everton shirt, because I am a professional.

They are going to build a new stadium. Why not the USM Arena? It is not obligatory for me to participate myself. I could just sponsor them.

Usmanov recently helped broker a deal for Everton to appoint Carlo Ancelotti as manager, and now it appears as though he is edging closer to committing himself to Everton, much to the joy of many of the club’s fanbase.

It is difficult not to start getting carried away and overly excited by this development. There is a real possibility that this situation has been the case for some time, and that nothing has actually changed, but hearing the words from the horse’s mouth does bring that extra excitement factor.

Everton have so far struggled to really mount a serious challenge on the top six under Moshiri, and while the answer isn’t always to just throw money at everything, further investment could be the way for Everton to break through that glass ceiling.

With additional resources in the boardroom, and with Carlo Ancelotti at the helm, Everton could be setting themselves up as a very solid platform for growth, and if that can translate to results on the pitch and more expensive and high profile players joining the club, then fingers crossed that the deal progresses.
