Virals: Matt Jones posts hilarious GIF in response to transfer claim

Popular Everton podcaster Matt Jones has taken to social media to light-heartedly ridicule reports that Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be leaving the club.

According to a report from The Telegraph, Newcastle United are keen on signing Everton’s talismanic hitman following their successful Saudi-led takeover.

Calvert-Lewin was the club’s top scorer last season and already has a cluster of goals to his name in the current campaign as his account opened with a flying start, but he has missed recent fixtures due to a long-term injury.

Despite his momentary injury malaise, that has not stopped the media from reporting that Calvert-Lewin remains of interest to Newcastle.

That prompted Matt Jones, known for his work with The Blue Room (@MattJFootball) to post a GIF of ex-Everton boss Ronald Koeman looking smugly and sarcastically at the camera as a means of raising a metaphorical eyebrow at the links.

According to the original report, the striker is said to be well-regarded by recruitment chiefs at Newcastle who have kept tabs on him for some time.

Aside from Newcastle, clubs appear to be circulating.

Both Manchester giants and an unnamed Bundesliga club are said to be keen on the striker and Everton could find themselves at the heart of a bidding war.

It is hard to accurately gauge how much money Newcastle’s owners are willing to invest in the squad in the January window and beyond, and most comments are largely speculative.

For now, the striker is an Everton man and the club will fight to keep it that way.
