Everton goalkeeping hero Tim Howard singled out new signing Asmir Begvoic for praise after the shot-stopper produced heroics in Everton’s pre-season win in the Florida Cup.
With other teams in Inter Milan and Arsenal being forced to pull out of the tournament, Everton faced a straight final against Colombian side Millonarios, with the match going to extra time and a penalty shootout.
The sudden-death nature of the long-running shootout saw responsibility falling to Asmir Begovic, who coolly fired home a convincing penalty before saving his ‘keeping counterpart’s effort to wrap up the first trophy of Rafa Benitez’ reign.
Tim Howard was paying close attention to Everton in the tournament as he cheered on his former side.
Taking to Twitter, Howard re-shared a video showcasing Begovic’s heroics, replying ‘casual mate’ with a congratulatory emoji accompanying the message, supporting his fellow ‘keeper for making it look easy.

It is not the first time Begovic has stepped up in a shoot-out determined by goalkeepers.
Last season, Bournemouth advanced in the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace on penalties, with Begovic impressing.
He saw his penalty saved by backup ‘keeper Wayne Hennessey, but Hennessey then blazed his effort over the bar.
Begovic then saved the following attempt of first-choice penalty-taker Luka Milivojevic to win the shoot-out for the Cherries.

Although Pickford is almost certain to hold down the no.1 spot, Begovic’s assured performance will go a long way in convincing fans he boasts the quality to deputise convincingly when called upon.
