Everton have reportedly welcomed highly-rated French teenager William Mirwasser as they explore a potential future move for the Hong Kong FC defender.
The 17-year-old used the international break to visit both Everton and Blackburn Rovers, according to Sport Witness, who relay a report from French newspaper L’Équipe.
Mirwasser is said to have toured the clubs’ training facilities and held discussions as he considers the next stage of his career. Everton and Blackburn are both reported to be interested, although a source close to the player stressed that “nothing has been decided yet”.
Everton take closer look at Mirwasser
Born in Paris, Mirwasser has developed at Hong Kong FC after previously spending time with FC Issy in France. He made 19 first-team appearances last season, accumulating 1,506 minutes. Primarily a right-back, Mirwasser has also operated as a wing-back, centre-back and on the left of defence.
Everton and Blackburn aren’t alone in tracking the teenager. Strasbourg and Serie A side Lecce are reportedly expected to host Mirwasser for similar visits during the November international break.
Any potential move would also be one for the future rather than David Moyes’ current squad. L’Équipe report that FIFA regulations prevent Mirwasser from leaving Hong Kong FC before he turns 18 next August.
That gives Everton plenty of time if they decide to pursue their interest, but the visit has at least given the club an opportunity to present its plans to a young defender attracting attention elsewhere in Europe.
Nothing has been agreed, and Mirwasser still has other clubs to visit. For now, Everton have made sure they are part of the conversation.
