Would Tosun do better than Calvert-Lewin with the same chances? – Fans Discussion

Cenk Tosun’s future as an Everton player is one of the most discussed topics this season.

Many fans want him to feature more often for the club, and many other fans want him to be sold to raise funds for better signings, while others are happy having him as a bit part player.

Marco Silva clearly doesn’t consider the Turkey international as being good enough to feature regularly, with the forward having only made one substitute appearance in the Premier League so far this season.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Moise Kean have both had their own struggles this season in front of goal, although the former has found a small vein of form in recent weeks.

Debating online, fans have been discussing whether Tosun would have found more success if he had been given the same amount of opportunities as Calvert-Lewin.

Twitter: @Efccol Definitely. The Turkish assassin would have double what DCL has (@mildotedildo)

Twitter: @Efccol Not a chance. (@jvblueboy)

Twitter: @Efccol No, Tosun is a slug! He had 25 games for us last year and scored 3 goals! ?‍♂️ (@irvine75)

Twitter: @Efccol My grandmother would have scored more than DCL if given the same amount of time on the pitch. (@problop)

Twitter: @Efccol I think so yes. Been unlucky with some efforts to be fair (@neilmuirhead1)

Twitter: @Efccol No just because DCL doesn’t convert his chances doesn’t mean Tosun would he’d be offside for half the chances DCL has had (@richiemaher7)

Twitter: @Efccol Definitely deserves more of a chance (@legendhughes29)

Twitter: @Efccol No he’s useless. People backing him up because he scored 2 for Turkey even tho it was against one of the worst teams in the world.. (@Rob09901660)

Read Everton Verdict

I’d be inclined to believe that Tosun may do better than Calvert-Lewin given the same chances. I think the Turkey international has more of a natural goalscoring instinct, and his finishing is more reliable than young DCL.

That being said, I think it is important that Everton persist with DCL if they want to further his development for the long-term. At just 22-years old, Calvert-Lewin needs minutes to develop and find his footing, even if he takes time to do so.

I’d be happy for the duo to rotate more often, so long as Moise Kean still keeps getting consistent game time. One of the three forwards has to settle soon, and it is up to Silva to find out which system works best.
