Yannick Bolasie steps up recovery as he trains with U23s

Everton winger Yannick Bolasie is getting closer to a return to action, as he has now returned to training with the Toffees’ under-23 side.

Bolasie hasn’t played since he limped out of his side’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United back in December 2016, but should be back in action soon, as was hinted at by interim manager David Unsworth on Friday (via Goal):

Yannick has had a couple of sessions with the under-23s

Bolasie joined Everton from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2016, with the Toffees paying a reported £25 million for the DR Congo international.

He injured a cruciate knee ligament in that aforementioned game against Manchester United last year, and the injury has kept him out for over 11 months so far.

Before picking up the injury, Bolasie made 15 appearances for the club, scoring once — he’ll be hoping that his long path to recovery means there won’t be any permanent damage to his knee so that he can push on and make the kind of impact he would have expected before being ruled out.

The Congolese winger will certainly be a welcome addition to the squad as Everton approach the always busy festive period.
