Gordon knows he has “got to take” his chance for Everton

Anthony Gordon has spoken out about his second debut for Everton’s first team, claiming he is working to improve bit by bit to get his shot for the club.

The 18-year old has been on the precipice of receiving his Premier League debut for some time now, with Marco Silva previously claiming he was “really close” to earning a first team call-up.

Gordon has impressed for David Unsworth’s Under-23s for some time now, earning him the opportunity to train regularly with the first team earlier this year.

The highly rated starlet made his competitive debut for the club in December 2017, coming on as a late substitute in the Europa League dead rubber against Apollon Limassol.

Now the playmaker is pushing for a shot in the Premier League, with some speculating that he could be included in the match-day squad to face Southampton on Saturday.

Talking to the Liverpool Echo, Gordon revealed what his conversations with Marco Silva over his development have been like, saying:

He doesn’t really speak about it [Gordon’s chances].

He’ll give me things to work on and tell me when I’m doing right or wrong. He just wants me to progress and keep getting better at the things he thinks I should be getting better at and it’s all I want as well and I know my time will come if I keep doing that.

I’m just trying to chip away, keep getting better and hopefully get closer and closer. And when my chance does come, I’ve got to take it, that’s up to me, I can’t depend on anyone else or the manager, that’s up to me.

I’ve got to play well enough to stay there.

I for one would like to see Anthony Gordon make his debut this weekend. The young playmaker has been patiently working and waiting, and the Toffees are in a tough spot, so why not inject some youthful enthusiasm into the mix.

The Blues also need to show their other young starlets that there is a direct route into the first team, should you be patient enough for it to come around.

Gordon is constantly being billed as a top talent at Finch Farm, and I’d like to see him put his ability to use for Everton.
