Everton are edging closer to signing South American duo Matias Vecino and Everton Soares, according to journalist Nicolo Schira.
We’ve covered the reports all week that have detailed Everton’s pursuit of the duo, with the print version of Corriere dello Sport (cited by Sempre Inter) first writing of the Toffees interest in Inter Milan midfielder Vecino, while Gazeta Esportiva first claimed that the Blues wanted Gremio forward Everton Soares.
The latest reports on both players told very differing stories, with FC Inter News alleging that Vecino was set to snub Everton as they don’t play in Europe, while UOL say that the Toffees have ‘great optimism’ at completing a deal for their Brazilian namesake this month, with a formal offer imminent.
Now Italian journalist and transfer expert Schira has taken to Twitter to confirm the Merseyside club’s interest in both players, claiming that talks are ongoing with Everton looking to finalise them both.
Fellow Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla also provided an update on Everton’s pursuit of Vecino earlier today, claiming via Twitter that Everton made contact with the Nerazzurri on Friday evening. Inter won’t back down from their €20million price tag on the Uruguayan, but the Toffees now lead the race.
There are just six days remaining of the January transfer window, and if these reports are true, it is expected that many Everton fans will have plenty to look out for in the coming days.

As always, we must treat these reports with caution, because really there is no telling what will happen in the next six days.
What we do know is that conversation is certainly mounting, and with more reports surfacing concerning Everton protracted interest in both Vecino and Everton Soares, the story does seem to have earned more credibility, even if only in small increments.
Everton’s midfield is currently lacking, and with little time left in the window to begin negotiations with targets, I’d like to think that the ones we’ve heard about are likely to be in the running, regardless of Carlo Ancelotti’s recent dismissal of such reports, unless the Italian has hidden negotiations for targets behind smokescreens.
It should be an interesting and hopefully exciting final few days of the month…
