Everton Taunted by Johann Berg Gudmundsson in Recent Comments

Burnley’s Icelandic winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson has issued a challenging statement to his team as he taunted Everton over their recent loss of form.

The 31-year-old was speaking to the Clarets’ official website ahead of this weekend’s upcoming clash with Carlo Ancelotti’s side as Burnley look to pick up their second league win of the season.

After the most recent international break, both clubs enjoyed wins against London-based opposition, with Burnley defeating Crystal Palace and Everton winning 3-2 away to Fulham.

However, both teams then suffered defeats last weekend, adding an emphasis to the upcoming clash at Turf Moor as both teams seek to prove a point to the rest of the league.

Gudmundsson himself was reflecting on a plethora of issues, including his recent injury struggles, though it was his comments ahead of the meeting of the two sides which may rouse the attention of Everton fans.

Having been thrashed 5-0 away to Manchester City, Gudmundsson eyed the Toffees as an opportunity for Burnley to pick up points.

“We weren’t happy with the performance [in the City defeat], but we need to forget that one and focus on the next one which is at home and a big game for us”, said the Icelandic winger.

“Everton started off really well with a really experienced manager and some new players but over the last few games it hasn’t really gone their way, so we need to try and take advantage of that.

“The start of this season hasn’t been the best, we know that. But we have experience in the group and we know what it takes to stay in the league and that will be the aim this season.”

These comments by Gudmundsson could add some extra feist to tomorrow’s clash at Turf Moor.

While Everton have lost four of their last five league games, Burnley have only secured one win in the division this season, and the winger’s comments are indicative of Burnley’s hunger.

Ancelotti’s men should win this game based on league position, but Dyche’s side should not be underestimated.
