Everton outcast Cenk Tosun has been touted with a return to former side Crystal Palace, according to reports from his native Turkey.

According to Fotomac [via Sport Witness], the 29-year-old has been ‘asked for’ by the Eagles and joins a growing list of suitors who could take him from Goodison Park in this transfer window.

Widely expected to leave this month, Tosun has only recently returned from a long-term knee injury he sustained at Crystal Palace during a training session last March. That injury caused his loan spell from January last year to be terminated early and he has yet to accrue regular game-time ever since.

At 29 years of age, Tosun will surely be bursting to find regular game-time, knowing the next six months may be the last chance in his career to featuring for Turkey at a major tournament.

Fotomac claimed that the Toffees striker remains ‘the favourite name’ at Istanbul giants Besiktas, but the player’s wage demands are ‘burning hands’ – a metaphor implying that his demands are too exorbitant for the Turkish club. Consequently, Crystal Palace would have one less major suitor to fend off if they are genuinely interested in Tosun.

Given that the striker was on loan with the south London club last season and had scored before his horror injury, Palace must have scouted him extensively and believed he could add something to Roy Hodgson’s team.

According to Fotomac, Tosun is ‘considering accepting’ the Palace offer, whilst Bundesliga duo Schalke and Hertha Berlin are also reportedly interested.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin flying high in terms of goals, it seems improbable that Tosun will ever get a serious look-in under Carlo Ancelotti at Goodison Park.

Everton could do with getting the 29-year-old’s £60,000-a-week wages off their books, and Palace may have the financial capacity to do just that.
