Al Nasr considering £10m approach for Bernard

Everton winger Bernard is reportedly the subject of transfer interest from Dubai-based club Al Nasr.

The Emirati side – whose name translates to ‘victory’ in Arabic – are looking to score a transfer victory by bringing the Toffees winger to the United Arab Emirates.

According to Sky Sports (Transfer Centre, 19/01/2021, 8:07am), Al Nasr are considering the submission of a £10m offer for the former Shakhtar Donetsk winger, who joined Everton on a free transfer in 2018.

Bernard is behind the likes of Richarlison and even natural left-back Lucas Digne in the pecking order of left-sided attackers. The latter recently featured in a more advanced role in Everton’s recent 2-1 triumph over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

According to Sky Sports, no official offer or contact has been made with Everton, but a deal could be in the pipeline.

Bernard, who has just 18 months remaining on his contract, has featured just 10 times in all competitions this season and has managed a single Premier League goal (Transfermarkt).

He will ordinarily be a free agent next summer and has attracted further interest from Serie A side AS Roma, whose goalkeeper Robin Olsen is on loan at Goodison Park.

Dubai is not an unfamiliar hub for footballers. Celtic have found themselves embroiled in controversy after making a publicised recent visit to the city which is popular with clubs as a warm-weather training camp destination.

A deal of any sort for Bernard makes total sense for the Toffees. To receive a fee of £10m represents a handsome profit and a certain recuperation of wage expenses.

Given his lack of importance to Carlo Ancelotti’s plans and his contract situation, this window could be the best opportunity to cash in.
