Lucas Digne has hailed Carlo Ancelotti as the ‘centrepiece’ of Everton’s recent success as the France international looks poised to extend his contract with the Toffees.
With 35 caps to his name at the age of 27, Digne knows he is very much a part of the thinking of Didier Dechamps’ international setup and will be working hard to make up for missing out on France’s 2018 World Cup triumph.
Digne attributed both his decision to quit Barcelona in favour of Merseyside and the role of Ancelotti’s tutelage in elevating his talents. He did not mince his words in outlining his situation to RMC Sport [via Sport Witness], saying:
He’s [Ancelotti] the centrepiece of the Everton project. That players like James Rodríguez or Allan have come isn’t random. It’s because of him. They are very good players and they came for the manager in particular.
It’s amazing to be able to work with a great manager like him, who has won so many trophies and who, on a human level, is very close to the players.
He’s super professional, demanding but also knows when to be relaxed and calm. He manages to oversee a squad in an incredible manner.

Aside form the interpersonal insights from Digne, the French left-back certainly has looked like a real asset to the Everton squad. With six assists in 14 Premier League appearances this season, even seasoned playmakers would not look out of their depth with those figures.
Ancelotti’s man management and personal touch must have played a role in fostering a togetherness within his squad, with Digne being one of many beneficiaries.
