Tino Aspirilla urges Everton ace to sort playing career out

James Rodriguez has been slammed for his attitude by an ESPN pundit, Tino Aspirilla, who has urged the Colombian to ‘talk less’ and focus on his playing career.

Following the departure of Carlo Ancelotti to Real Madrid following an agreement with Everton, rumours began to circulate incessantly on Rodriguez’ supposed unhappiness on Merseyside.

AC Milan were linked as a major suitor, and speculation continues to persist that he could be on his way to Atletico Madrid to link up with Diego Simeone’s title-winning La Liga side.

The Colombian international recently posted an image accompanied with the words “never stop believing” in Spanish on social media – a phrase popularised in Atletico supporter fan culture.

As a result, Rodriguez compatriot and one-time Newcastle ace Aspirilla held nothing back as he issued a firm caution to the Colombian playmaker.

Aspirilla said on ESPN (via Sport):

“He has to play well, train well, not ‘show off’ more, talk less and play more. It’s the only thing he has to do.

“James has to understand once and for all that this is the last one he’s going to have. Where else is he going to play next?

“He knows he has to be an intelligent boy and knows that, if he goes to Atlético de Madrid, it is the last chance.”

Rodriguez appears to not be a part of Rafa Benitez’ plans given the long-running feud between the two stars.

With Demarai Gray featuring in Rodriguez’ customary no. 10 role, further fuel was added to burning Rodriguez-shaped effigy during the Toffees’ 3-1 triumph at home to Southampton on opening day.

Everton need to sort out his situation soon, or risk a debilitating rift developing behind the scenes at the club in a saga that could yet turn ugly.
