Everton rescued a vital point at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scoring a brilliant 91st‑minute goal, securing a 2‑2 draw against European rivals Brentford.

The result keeps David Moyes’ side firmly in the hunt for continental qualification, with the Toffees still level on points with their hosts and just three adrift of the Champions League places.

The home side opened the scoring inside three minutes through Igor Thiago’s penalty, but Beto levelled with a fine header before half‑time. Thiago restored Brentford’s lead with a deflected effort in the 76th minute, only for Dewsbury‑Hall to fire home in stoppage time and send the travelling Everton fans into a massive celebration.

Dewsbury-Hall: ‘That could be a massive point’

Speaking after the game, the Everton midfielder reflected on a chaotic contest and praised his team’s character.

“It was a bit of a rollercoaster game,” Dewsbury-Hall said. “We knew it would be a tough game. They have strengths that they play to well. Maybe a draw is a fair result. The fact we came from behind twice shows the mentality of the lads – we never give up, ever. Nice to score a late goal and at least take something away from it.”

On his equaliser, he added: “I saw it go over my head from the cross and I thought let me just get in there in case something comes. I’m happy I scored because I should’ve scored 20 minutes before which I was disappointed with.

“Cliche as it is, if you don’t win try not to lose and we did that. Pleasing to react from going behind twice. That could be a massive point at the end of the season.”

‘Heads might have gone down but we’ve come a long way’

The early penalty could have knocked Everton off course, but Dewsbury‑Hall insisted the team’s reaction showed their growth.

“100 per cent – all week we have been practising dealing with their threat. We didn’t start on it and they punished us. We managed to get back into it and that shows it didn’t affect us. Heads might have gone down but we’ve come a long way. Big couple of games to come.”

He also reserved praise for Beto, whose excellent header brought Everton back into the match. “Look at Brentford’s striker this season, the amount of goals he’s scored, and that is unbelievable for a team that is not expected to finish high. His goals are putting them in a position to do well. If our strikers can do that then we know we have a good chance of getting the points.”

The result keeps Everton’s European hopes alive. With a huge home game against Liverpool up next, the Blues will need more of the same resilience that Dewsbury‑Hall highlighted.

Everton host Liverpool next in a massive European decider as the neighbours sit just three points above them. A result would be massive for David Moyes’ hopes of Champions League football next season.
