Everton produced their finest performance at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday night, easing past Chelsea 3-0 to boost their European ambitions. Beto was the star of the show, scoring twice and adding an assist in a display that left the visitors shell-shocked.

The result lifts David Moyes’ side to seventh in the Premier League table, just two points behind Chelsea and three behind rivals Liverpool in fifth. For Chelsea, it was a fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions, with Liam Rosenior admitting afterwards, “That was not good enough. This was the most disappointing evening so far.”

Beto’s brace lights up the night for Everton

The striker opened the scoring in the 33rd minute with a moment of real quality. James Garner, who received his first England call-up earlier in the week, played an inch-perfect through ball that split the Chelsea defence. Beto raced onto it and lifted a delicate finish over Robert Sanchez.

“It was a beautiful goal,” Moyes said after the match. Garner was “head and shoulders the best player on the pitch”, according to his manager, but it was Beto who provided the finishing touch.

The Portuguese forward doubled Everton’s lead just after the hour mark. Idrissa Gana Gueye intercepted on halfway, drove 40 yards towards goal, and fed Beto inside the area. His first-time shot squeezed under Sanchez and trickled over the line. It was the striker’s second brace in the Premier League for Everton, having previously scored twice against Leicester City in February 2025.

As per Opta, Beto has now scored more goals than any Everton player in 2026, with five in the calendar year after failing to score in his final 16 league games of 2025.

Talking to TalkSport about the Everton fans, Beto said, “It was something crazy. At the hotel, they were outside shouting and with the flares. I asked Gana ‘what’s happening.’ He said, ‘they are feeling we are going to beat these guys.’ The atmosphere was amazing. Like Goodison again”. Beto ensured the fans’ expectations weren’t hurt.

Ndiaye caps off stunning team display

With 14 minutes remaining, Beto turned provider. He climbed highest to flick a Jordan Pickford goal-kick towards Iliman Ndiaye, who twisted Moises Caicedo inside and out before curling a sumptuous finish into the top right-hand corner.

Jordan Pickford played his part too, making two outstanding saves from Enzo Fernandez either side of half-time to secure his 100th clean sheet for Everton.

The first came when he tipped over the Chelsea midfielder’s acrobatic volley at close range, while the second was a fingertip save early in the second half.

“This was our best performance here, absolutely,” Moyes said. “From the first minute we were right on it. It was a big game and the crowd made it feel like a big game, so a big thank you to the supporters for the part they played tonight.”

The result marked Everton’s biggest ever Premier League victory against Chelsea. The Toffees have now won six of their last eight home league meetings with the Blues, with no other side taking more home wins against a single opponent since 2018-19.

Beto became the first Everton player to score more than once in a Premier League game at Hill Dickinson Stadium. On this form, he may not be the last.
