- Tyler Dibling has played just 14 games this season.
- David Moyes has publicly asked Tyler Dibling to do better.
- The midfielder joined Everton last season for a £42m fee.
Tyler Dibling arrived at Everton from Southampton last summer for a reported £42m fee, but his first season at Hill Dickinson Stadium has been challenging. The 20‑year‑old has made 14 appearances, starting only four, and has played just one minute in the past 10 matches.
David Moyes has now spoken openly about what he expects from the young midfielder. Moyes was clear about his message to Tyler Dibling that more is needed.
Moyes: ‘He’ll have to do better in his work and in his training’
Asked about Dibling’s lack of minutes and whether it reflected his current level, Moyes did not hide his thoughts. “It’s where he is. He’ll have to do better, I think. He’ll have to do better in his work and in his training. We brought in Tyrique, who is of a similar age and as competition as well to make sure we were covered.
“I think Tyrique has done well in the moments he’s had in games and shown some bits that we like, so we want Tyler to step up, we really do. He’s important to us. He’s a player who we put a lot of faith and money into to bring him here so we are looking for a lot more.”
The Everton manager was firm but not dismissive. “That’s why we are not panicking with it, because of his age. We want him to step up, we are hoping that he’ll improve and next year will be a big year for him to see if he can do that.”
Moyes backs Dibling to make a difference next season
Moyes has previously spoken about Dibling and fellow young midfielder Merlin Rohl. “Merlin, we like, Tyler, we like. Tyler, we’re giving more time to because of his age. Merlin could have easily been involved in some more games and played a little bit more time. It’ll do him no harm to have sat back for the best part of the season and looked at it. No, we like them, they’re both good boys.”
The manager has also expressed hope that Tyler Dibling and the likes of him, struggling for minutes this season, could contribute in the final weeks.
“It’s always the way, isn’t it? You’re always hoping that the opportunities come, and when they do, they’re ready to take it. I hope they are ready, because we need it.”
Tyler Dibling has shown flashes of his talent, but consistency and impact have been missing since his move to Merseyside.
Moyes’ public call is a wake‑up call for Dibling. The club invested heavily in him, and they believe he has the ability. Now the onus is on the player to respond to the comments with his performances.
With European qualification still a possibility and a full pre‑season ahead, Tyler Dibling has time to turn things around. But as Moyes made clear, next season will be decisive. The teenager needs to step up and more importantly, Everton needs him to.
