Ancelotti calls Napoli midfielder Allan amid Everton interest

Carlo Ancelotti has personally called Napoli midfielder Allan about joining Everton, according to Tuttomercatoweb

Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness) reported last week that Allan was Carlo Ancelotti’s “dream signing”, although a deal didn’t look likely, with Everton instead focusing on identifying targets in a similar mould to the Brazilian.

This was followed up by a report from the print version of Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness), that claimed that the 29-year old is unhappy at the San Paolo and could be interesting in reuniting with his former manager, sparking speculation that Everton could realistically target the midfielder.

Now Tuttomercatoweb claim that Napoli would consider selling Allan after signing Diego Demme and Stanislav Lobotka this month, with Ancelotti having called the former Udinese man personally, with Allan said to be tempted by the promise of playing in the Premier League and under his former Partenopei boss.

However, TMW also claim that Everton have not yet taken the requisite steps in order to sign the midfielder, and the club is ‘hardly’ likely to do so this month.

Allan’s case very much feels like the perfect player but at the wrong time. With WhoScored adjudging the Brazilian to be ‘strong’ dribbler and tackler, and a ‘very strong’ passer of the ball, Allan would add quality and compose to Everton’s depleted midfield group.

However, given Allan’s age, the midfielder doesn’t have much sell-on value, and given that Napoli would likely demand a sizeable fee from the Toffees in order to pry the starting regular away from the San Paolo, the deal doesn’t look to make the most financial sense, even if looks to have good potential from a footballing stand-point.

Still, this is yet another case of a transfer rumour having persisted prior to Ancelotti claiming that all names in the newspapers and all the names claimed by Sky are false, so we don’t really know whether there is any credibility behind these reports. As with most transfer rumours, we’ll just have to wait and see.
