- David Moyes has a contract running till the end of next season.
- The Scot joined Everton in January 2025, with Everton just one point above the relegation zone.
David Moyes has transformed Everton since returning to Merseyside. When he replaced Sean Dyche at the halfway point of last season, the Toffees were just one point above the relegation zone with 17 points from 19 matches.
Now, Everton sit eighth in the Premier League, level on points with seventh‑placed Brentford and just three points adrift of the final Champions League qualification spot.
Given the job he has done at Everton, speculation has grown over a new contract for the 62‑year‑old, whose current deal expires at the end of next season. But Moyes is in no rush.
David Moyes: ‘Absolutely, I love it here’
Asked if he would be happy to extend his stay at Everton, Moyes was unequivocal.
“Absolutely. I love it here,” he said. “There’s no problem here, but there’s no problem if we don’t. With the age I’m at, I’ll be in for a period then we’ll see where it goes.
“I use the words that I’ll try not to overstay my welcome and do what I think is best for Everton.”
The Scot steered Everton to nine top‑eight finishes in his first spell, including a fourth‑place finish in 2004/05. Now, David Moyes is focused on the immediate task rather than his own future.
“I’m quite comfortable. I’m not desperately needing anything at the moment and I’m not desperately needing to be in talks or having anything to discuss. I’m fine. I think the focus from me is how we can get on in the next four or five weeks and we’ll see what happens after that.”
Summer decision expected from Everton
The Athletic journalist Patrick Boyland has reported that Everton are yet to make a final decision on David Moyes. The conclusion is likely expected in the summer.
“I don’t think a decision has been made yet on Moyes’ future. From what I’m told, that’ll likely be one for the summer, but there is definitely an appreciation of the job he has done so far in turning Everton from relegation battlers into contenders for a European place,” Boyland wrote.
David Moyes has turned Everton’s fortunes around since returning. The Toffees have recorded 11 clean sheets this season. Only Arsenal and Manchester United have collected more points than Everton since matchday 19.
A new contract for the manager would also provide stability for transfer planning, with the likes of Jack Grealish understood to love playing under Moyes.
With European football still within reach, The Friedkin Group are expected to back Moyes. A decision will come, but for now, the manager’s focus is solely on the pitch.
Everton visit Brentford next, who are level on points with them, with seven games remaining.
