David Moyes has historically struggled against Liverpool and will hope to improve his record with a valuable set of three points on Sunday.
Although the Scotsman has struggled against Everton’s rivals, he has still claimed some memorable results against them.
Lee Carsley smashes winner in 2004
In Moyes’ third full season with the Blues, he secured his first win over Liverpool thanks to midfielder Lee Carsley.
The Republic of Ireland international found the back of the net in the 68th minute and grabbed Everton their fourth win in five games – as well as a precious derby day victory.
Defeating the Reds on this occasion had a large impact on the season as the Toffees went on to finish fourth, and just three points ahead of Liverpool.
Andy Johnson torments the Reds
Everton continued their flying start to the 2006-07 season with a 3-0 win over Liverpool in just their fourth league game.
It was a dominant display by the Blues, and new signing Andy Johnson bagged a famous double that etched him into Everton folklore.
After giving his side a two-goal advantage in the 36th minute, his second came on the stroke of full time after Pepe Reina kindly assisted the forward by throwing the ball onto his head, and with that secured a win for the Toffees.
Dan Gosling wins bragging rights in the Cup
The 2009 FA Cup was both a memorable and painful one for Everton, but in their run to the final, they pulled off some impressive results.
After being drawn against Liverpool in the fourth round, they forced a replay following a draw at Anfield.
The second tie was a closely fought one, and just as it appeared the pair would be heading to penalties, up stepped young Dan Gosling to send Everton through, who further rubbed salt into the wounds of the away contingent by celebrating in front of them.
Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta storm the Blues to victory
When Liverpool visited Goodison Park in the 2010-11 season, Everton were yet to win a home match in the Premier League.
Yet goals in each half from Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta kick-started their season and won the Blues their first home league match of the season.
This proved to be Cahill’s last goal against Liverpool after amassing a pretty impressive record against them with seven goal involvements in 15 games against them.
James Tarkowski comes to the rescue
In Everton’s final season at Goodison Park, Moyes returned to steady the ship, but another stern challenge awaited him.
As Liverpool were dominating in the league, they sought to secure one final win at Goodison Park in her final season with the men’s team.
Beto put the Blues one up, but the visitors responded through Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah and looked set to snatch a win, yet James Tarkowski’s late thumping volley rescued a famous point and sent Goodison into raptures.
A new dawn at Hill Dickinson Stadium
Moyes’ finest moments have all come at Everton’s old home, Goodison Park.
Even though the environment will be different, the passion of the derby will be the same, and the Scotsman will hope this Sunday is added to his list of iconic moments.
