Moyes delighted for Branthwaite as Everton defender earns England recognition

David Moyes has expressed his delight for Jarrad Branthwaite after the Everton defender earned further England recognition – although the Blues boss hopes his workload is managed carefully.

Branthwaite has started all four of Everton’s Premier League games this season after his injury problems and produced another impressive performance in last weekend’s goalless draw at Tottenham.

Moyes had called for the centre-back to earn international recognition after that game, describing him as “a really good player” with “far more to come”.

Moyes delighted with Branthwaite progress

“Really pleased for Jarrad,” said Moyes. “Given where his fitness is, I hope he doesn’t play four games!

“Thrilled for him. Some players, like Jarrad, take longer than others to get fit.”

Moyes also praised Everton’s decision to sign Branthwaite from Carlisle United as an 18-year-old in January 2020.

“Brilliant bit of recruitment by Everton from Carlisle,” he said. “He has developed greatly.”

The Everton manager was also encouraged by Tyler Dibling’s performance in Wednesday’s 1-0 Carabao Cup victory over Wolves.

Dibling was named man of the match after setting up Charly Alcaraz’s winner, while one second-half recovery run and tackle drew a particularly warm response from Moyes and the home crowd.

“He’s much more ready now than he was,” said Moyes. “Now showing us his teeth a little.

“He’s come from a different environment. He’s now taking players on, which we want him to do.”

Dibling’s display gave Moyes another selection decision ahead of Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Ipswich at the Hill Dickinson.
