Everton 2-2 Bournemouth – Everton Player Ratings

(Just as a quick author’s note we’re having some trouble with things in the Slideshow format, so I apologise for the bland template of these ratings. Hopefully all will be back next week. Love from, Alex x)

Firstly, I would like to send whatever I’ve got to Michael Keane, he went in for a warrior’s header and came off horrendous. He was extremely brave to put his body on the line like that, and I wish him the speediest of recoveries. Onto the game.

A real shame that we’ve had two stupid red cards in two winnable away games now, as we should really have started this season 9 for 9, but now we walk into the second round of the League Cup with 4 points. On that red card, Richarlison was successfully lured, and that’s all there is to it. Just a cheap trick by Bournemouth, but it works, and I have no ill will about that. If it’s there, exploit it, because you’re never going to win anything being a good sport.

And on the actual game, the first half was largely forgettable. The second half showed both the most exciting and most worrying parts of Silva’s early Everton tenure,  but what we mustn’t forget on a similar note is that this season is a transition season. I couldn’t care less if we finish 8th or 17th. Marco Silva is building for the future, and I’m along for the ride, through the ups and downs. And this game was indeed a hell of a microcosm of the rollercoaster that is Everton Football Club.

Any success this season is a bonus entirely. Check back in three years for any #SilvaOut doing the rounds, but let’s all be positive for now.

Jordan Pickford – 8

Didn’t really have to do much in the first half, but was the real reason we didn’t lose this game in the second half, with two excellent saves and a few more to keep control.

Séamus Coleman – 3

A decent enough display going forward was marred heavily by a very weak defensive performance. He couldn’t prevent anything from the Everton box, and both flanks were where Bournemouth’s real threat came from. Not good enough.

Michael Keane – 9

Another truly excellent performance from Keane, who looked even stronger in defensive coverage than he has before. Wilson and King are a dangerous strike force, and if not for Baines’ mistake leading to the galvanising penalty, he might have seen us walk away with a clean sheet.

Again, I wish him a very quick recovery, and with performances like this, I can’t wait to see him back in the side.

Mason Holgate – 7

Holgate fared well against, like I said, a very dangerous Bournemouth front two. He looked as composed on the ball as ever and is going to be a real star in seasons to come.

Leighton Baines – 3

Like his fullback counterpart, far too poor today. He still cannot block any crosses and struggles immensely with positioning in around his own 18 yard box. Digne needs to be introduced sooner rather than later.

Idrissa Gana Gueye – 7

A decent enough game for Gana, but nothing to write home about either.

Tom Davies – 6

A decent enough all round game for Tom, but the issue still remains that he doesn’t fully warrant a position based solely on the fact that he doesn’t really contribute anything too exciting going forward, and is still inexperienced in defending anything dangerous.

Gylfi Sigurdsson – 8

Sigurdsson looks more and more comfortable by the week in Silva’s Everton, and he is starting to take full control of this team. He was incredibly quick on the ball and his distribution was fantastic. I was never fully convinced by Sigurdsson last season, but he has came on leaps and bounds under Silva and I can’t wait to see where he goes from here.

Richarlison – 3

It happens.

He’s a kid with a temper, and he needs to learn not to be lured into getting into trouble. Karma was later served as Smith was also dismissed, but you can’t help but think if Richarlison stayed on the pitch, we would have won that game.

Theo Walcott – 8

Walcott once again was phenomenal today, with his second goal in as many games, and his link up with Cenk is looking everything like we expected it to be. It’s a shame his second half display couldn’t win us the game, but it happens, we just need to reinforce ourselves at the back and going forward; Tosun, Walcott and Richarlison will take care of themselves.

Cenk Tosun – 8

Another excellent game for Cenk, who continues his early season purple patch. He still isn’t scoring, but that should not be a worry for anyone, as his work on the ball and his selflessness for his teammates shone through again, and he remains one of our bright sparks.
