Everton will not move for Jack Grealish until they know more about his fitness.
According to Patrick Boyland of The Athletic, Everton would do a permanent deal for Grealish on the right terms. But the club plan to wait through the final stage of his recovery before deciding whether to go ahead.
There is no confirmed return date. It is not yet clear whether he will be fit for the start of the new season. Everton want him ready to play soon after any deal is done, rather than take on a player who still needs weeks of rehabilitation.
Grealish turns 31 in September. He made 22 appearances during his 2025/26 loan spell, scoring twice and setting up six goals, before a serious foot injury ended his campaign early. He won the Premier League Player of the Month award last August. Everton’s form dropped once he was sidelined.
Money is also a factor. Grealish is reported to earn close to £15m a year at Manchester City. Everton subsidised around three-quarters of that during his loan. He enters the final year of his City contract this summer.
Everton have alternatives if a deal does not happen. Newcastle’s Jacob Murphy and Como’s Assane Diao have both been linked. For now, the position hasn’t changed from Everton’s summer transfer tracker: no move until his fitness is confirmed.
