Everton join Aston Villa in race to sign Anton Donkor

Everton have joined Championship side Aston Villa in the race to sign Wolfsburg winger Anton Donkor, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The Germany U20 international has spent his entire playing career in the Wolfsburg academy and he now plays for their second team in the Regionalliga Nord but is yet to make his professional debut for the Bundesliga outfit.

Speaking to German source Sport Buzzer earlier this month, Donkor confirmed that his agent was in talks with Aston Villa over a move to the Championship club on loan.

“My agent has had contact with Aston Villa. In order to further develop myself, a loan to England would surely be a good thing,” Donkor is quoted as saying.

The 19-year-old appeared on the radar of Villa scouts whilst playing in the UEFA Youth Champions League and they’ve been keeping tabs on him ever since.

Not in Wolfsburg’s plans to feature in the first-team anytime soon, Donkor is eager for a loan move to kickstart his professional career but now Villa face a battle with premier League side Everton for his signature.

Everton have just allowed Gerard Deulofeu to leave the club for AC Milan on loan until the end of the season, which, along with the serious knee injury suffered by Yannickk Bolasie last month, could mean they’re about to make a move for a winger.
