Everton news: Richarlison revelation, Nsangou recognition & internationals

The international break is almost over for Everton, but Tuesday has still provided plenty of news and talking points before attention returns fully to the Premier League.

A possible summer return for Richarlison has been revisited, Jonathan Nsangou has earned national recognition and Everton’s concerns over recovering the Burnley compensation money have emerged from the published case documents.

There is also one final night of international football to negotiate, with six Blues involved across England’s senior and Under-21 squads.

Richarlison revelation and Nsangou recognition

Fabrizio Romano has revealed further details of the proposed summer deal that could have brought Richarlison back to Everton.

The transfer journalist claims Tottenham were prepared to let the Brazilian return to his former club as part of a sequence of deals that could have taken Iliman Ndiaye in the opposite direction.

Richarlison ultimately decided that returning to Everton wasn’t the right move for him at that stage. Romano now expects the 29-year-old to leave Tottenham when the transfer market reopens in January, although there is currently no suggestion that David Moyes intends to revive Everton’s interest.

One player already at the club has enjoyed a particularly encouraging few days. Sixteen-year-old Jonathan Nsangou has been named among the Premier League’s best young talents in The Guardian’s Next Generation 2026 list.

The recognition follows Nsangou’s first involvement with Moyes’ senior group. He played 45 minutes and scored the late equaliser in the reported 3-3 behind-closed-doors draw with Blackburn Rovers at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Harvey Foster is another academy player attracting attention. The 19-year-old midfielder has impressed at Premier League 2 level and, according to our friends at Goodison News, is approaching the final months of his current Everton contract.

Burnley appeal and where Everton stand

Away from the pitch, published documents have provided further detail on Everton’s concerns over the compensation awarded to Burnley.

Everton had warned that Burnley might struggle to repay the money if the Blues ultimately succeed with their appeal. The club sought a stay on enforcement and proposed alternatives including escrow or a bank guarantee, but the commission concluded Burnley should be capable of repaying the award.

That appeal is due to be heard in January.

Tuesday also felt like a natural point to take stock as Everton’s three-week break comes to an end.

Moyes’ side remain unbeaten in all competitions, Christian Norgaard is back in first-team training and Rohl has been moving towards a return. The squad remains thin and Vitalii Mykolenko’s fitness needs monitoring, but there are reasonable grounds for cautious optimism ahead of Sunday’s trip to Hull City.

The break arrived when Everton had momentum. They appear to be approaching the other side of it with several players closer to contention and some of their younger players having made useful progress.

England bring international break to a close

The final international action involving Everton players takes place on Tuesday evening. Tyler Dibling, Tyrique George and Harrison Armstrong are with England Under-21s for their 6pm European Championship qualifier against the Republic of Ireland in Cork.

Later, Jordan Pickford, Jarrad Branthwaite and James Garner are available for England’s Nations League meeting with Czechia at Wembley.

Pickford played the full 90 minutes of Saturday’s 7-0 victory over Croatia, while Garner came off the bench. Branthwaite was unused after making a late appearance against Spain earlier in the break. England against Czechia kicks off at 7.45pm and is live on ITV.

By the end of the night, Everton’s international programme should finally be complete, and Moyes can begin putting the pieces back together at Finch Farm.

Hull and the return of Premier League football come next for an Everton side that has given itself a promising platform from which to resume the season.
