Everton join race for Man City’s Rico Lewis as Moyes eyes right-back solution

Everton are among several Premier League clubs showing interest in Manchester City’s Rico Lewis, with the Etihad Stadium prepared to sanction a sale this summer if the right offer arrives, according to TEAMtalk.

The 21-year-old has struggled for minutes under Pep Guardiola this season, starting just three Premier League games as Matheus Nunes has established himself in the right-back role. Lewis signed a new long-term contract at City last year, but limited game time has him weighing up a move that would guarantee regular football.

The link fits a clear need for Moyes, who has spent much of the summer searching for a right-back to succeed Seamus Coleman. Lewis offers versatility across the back line and into midfield, along with an England pedigree, though City’s valuation of around £35m makes him one of the pricier options on Everton’s list. Nottingham Forest have already had a package worth roughly £26m turned down.

Everton face competition beyond Forest, too. Newcastle and Sunderland are watching the situation closely, with Fulham, Crystal Palace, Brentford and Brighton also credited with interest, meaning Moyes may need to move quickly and decisively if Everton want to win the race.

City are not actively pushing Lewis out and remain fond of the academy graduate, but are understood to be willing to let him leave if he pushes for an exit.
