Everton transfer news: Toffees should consider Ben White and Rico Lewis

  • Moyes targets Ben White to provide experience and versatile defensive cover.
  • Arsenal’s White seeks regular football after playing only one thousand minutes.
  • Rico Lewis would offer attacking dynamism and midfield flexibility for Everton.

Everton’s season has exceeded expectations. David Moyes’ side sit seventh in the Premier League table, just three points off fifth place and the Champions League spots. European football is now a genuine possibility for next season, and with that comes the need to strengthen the squad.

One position that has been a recurring issue is right‑back. Jake O’Brien has filled in there, James Garner has been used out of position, and Nathan Patterson has struggled for minutes. Seamus Coleman is entering the twilight of his career, and the Toffees desperately need a natural, consistent option on that flank. Here are two candidates Everton should target.

Ben White – Arsenal

As previously reported at ReadEverton, Everton are showing strong interest in Ben White. The report states that while other clubs have made enquiries, it is the Toffees who are currently leading the race for the 28‑year‑old.

White has found himself on the periphery at the Emirates this season. Jurrien Timber has firmly overtaken him at right‑back, and injuries have limited the England international to just over 1,000 minutes across all competitions. With Arsenal looking to bring in a younger, more durable option, a summer exit looks likely.

The defender is primarily a right‑back but can also play centre‑back and defensive midfield. That versatility would appeal to David Moyes, who values players who can cover multiple roles. White has Premier League experience, has won trophies with Arsenal, and would slot straight into Everton’s backline.

The relationship between Moyes and Mikel Arteta could also help. The two worked together at Everton when Arteta was a player under the Scot, and that connection might smooth negotiations. White’s contract at Arsenal runs until 2028, so the Gunners are in a strong position.

With the player reportedly looking for regular first‑team football, a deal could be reached. Securing European football will improve Everton’s chances of capturing the experienced England international.

Rico Lewis – Manchester City

Another name that has been floated with Everton is Rico Lewis. Manchester City’s Lewis signed a new deal at the beginning of the season but has struggled for regular playing time. He cannot push Matheus Nunes out of the starting line‑up and might be open to leaving for playing time. Everton could be the perfect destination.

His attacking thrust will give Everton more dynamism, and his ability to deputize in midfield might come in handy. He is a very ‘intelligent’ player. He is still suspect defensively, but Moyes could improve that side of his game.

Following Lewis’ international debut against North Macedonia in 2023, Harry Kane praised the young defender after his outing in a 1‑1 draw. Kane liked his ability to be a presence both on and off the ball and told him to stay resilient after giving away a penalty.

Since then, Lewis has appeared four more times for his country, but has not played for them since 2024. With only 10 league matches to his name this season, now could be the time when he pushes a move away from City, in the hope of regaining consistent playing time and a chance to represent his nation again.

A full back is priority number one in the transfer window. Out of all the successful pieces of business that Everton have conducted in recent years, the recruitment of full-backs has not fallen under this category.
